The primary chemical component of Mentha arvensis oil is menthol, which appears as a colorless or pale yellow liquid. This oil contains 70% to 75% L-menthol as its main constituent, along with other significant compounds such as terpenes (including alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene, cineol, and octanol), menthone, neomenthol, methyl acetate, pulegone, and pipestone. The steam distillation process yields mint oil, which can be further refined through chilling to produce menthol crystals and dementholized mint oil.
